The AIR Test
The issue: indoor air quality and its impact on your health
Are you concerned that the air you breath could be causing you problems?
Do you think that you might have a mould issue causing health issues in your home?
Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced both after exposure or possibly, years later.

Research shows people are increasingly exposed to complex mixtures of man-made chemicals e.g., volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) in air pollution, furniture, dust, toys, food packaging and many of the products in our everyday environment. We know from scientific studies that measurable levels of man-made chemicals are routinely found in people, regardless of age or where they live.
While it is impossible to eliminate these chemicals and their reactions, their impact within our indoor air environment can be reduced if we have knowledge of what they are, by compound, and an understanding of the specific problems they can cause.
Some people, especially the very young or those living with a chronic health condition such as respiratory, cardiac or allergy issues, will be more vulnerable to breathing indoor VOCs. This is partly as VOCs react with other chemicals within the indoor air microbiome, e.g. during cleaning or cooking, to create secondary contaminant compounds harmful to health.
Take the AIR test
At WHATSINMY? we provide independent testing services with the expertise of our chemist team from our cutting-edge laboratory near Oxford in the UK. It’s a “GCxGC” lab or, more precisely, a two-dimensional gas chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometry lab.
This means we can identify the many individual compounds such as individual VOCs, or organic chemicals such as different fuels, not just the combined total as per standard air quality measurement tools. This is vital, as each compound has a different health or environmental effect.
Taking the AIR test will identify the wide range of compounds in your air sample taken from a specific room e.g., kitchen, study, children’s bedroom.
You will receive a personalised report with a list of all the chemicals found in your sample, including mould, with the chemical found in the highest concentration ranked highest. You will also see that the chemicals which have strong evidence to have health and environmental impacts on human and animal health have coloured categories next to them detailing health impacts from anxiety & depression to endocrinal disruptors.
More information on these potentially harmful chemicals, including their possible sources, effects and how to reduce their impact in your home and life, can be found by following the link provided in your report to The Science Behind WHATSINMY? website. This is a specialist consumer science website designed to help you understand more about the benefits or risks for organic compounds, and where these can be found in a domestic and community setting.
How it works
1. Book a test and capture sample in metal tube provided, following the easy-to-use instructions.
2. Return the test to our laboratory using the mailbox provided (postage is paid in the UK).
3. Our scientific team will get to work using the analysis of the GCxGC machine.
4. You receive your personalized results, within 10 days of our laboratory receiving your sample.
WHATSINMY? laboratory delivers both single and two-dimensional gas chromatography analytical services, with the operation of a GCxGC machine under the expert management of our chemist and health data research team.
Our testing equipment is high quality laboratory equipment. We send it out to you for the purposes of taking the most accurate, reliable and validated results. We keep samples for up to 14 days once tested, then for environmental and sustainability purposes re-use our AIR test equipment (pumps and tubes).

Price includes VAT and free shipping in the UK. International orders will need to contact hello@whatsinmy.world for a bespoke order with additional postage.
What we don’t test
Please note this is a test for organic matter and its reactive compounds in your everyday world. We do not test for radon, metals and other non-organic matter.
The following samples are not accepted: illegal substances, faecal matter (aside from that which is invisible to the naked eye within river/sea/lake water) and organisms dead or alive.
Order a test today, learn about the toxins specific to your home and take informed action to protect your family and pets.
